An Exclusive Look at Minnesota’s First 5-Star Hotel – WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) “It’s the very first in Minnesota.

Yes, there’s a list of awesome businesses here, but for some reason there’s never been a five star hotel – until now. Four Seasons Minneapolis opens June 1.

A five-star hotel sounds a little daunting, but executives say they’re going to make it a community center for everyone.

So far no one has seen the inside. WCCO brings you the very first public preview.

You may have seen it from the outside, but this is the first look inside. And it’s quite a sight to behold.

“It’s special. It’s going to be one of the best Four Seasons hotels we have in the country. And to be able to say that, that it’s here in Minneapolis, in the Twin Cities, it’s amazing,” said the managing director Florian Riedel.

Riedel is the first general manager of the state’s first five-star hotel. He is a leader with perspective.

“I started as a waiter at Four Seasons in London, it was my first job at Four Seasons,” he said. “It’s my seventh hotel now and time flies when you’re having fun I guess.”

Speaking of fun, he and his family found it quickly in the nine months they lived here.

“We dived deep. My son already plays hockey, I go cross-country skiing. We really embraced it,” he said.

They were from Silicon Valley. He says it was the right decision personally and professionally.

“I have to tell you that I’m so impressed with the talent we find here at the moment,” he said.

Including Adam Witherspoon, who grew up in Bloomington and became a cocktail designer and innovator at Alma, Colita and now the Four Seasons.

“I find myself disconcerted by the situation I find myself in, to be a part of this,” Withersppon said.

It is a large part of it – at the heart of the hotel’s openness to travelers and, in particular, to locals.

“You don’t have to come with a million dollars to enjoy the top floor room and suite, you can come and have a drink, you can get that five-star hospitality,” he said. .

This is a point Riedel echoes.

“I recognize that our brand is a bit intimidating at times. But the more you get to know us, the more you’ll see that we’re actually fun people. We don’t take ourselves too seriously,” Riedel said. “We live by the rule gold, we want to treat others as we want to be treated. And it really goes through everything we do, from how we hire people, how we train them, how we welcome our customers. »

The international designers focused on two words that sum up Minnesota: industry and innovation. You can see it in the design details.

A mid-century bar sits just outside chef Gavin Kaysen’s new restaurant. And upstairs, near the sparkling pool, is another bar with views of the skyline.

The Four Seasons tries to make the rooftop a little less seasonal. Indeed, the bar heats up to keep your legs warm.

It’s always warm by the indoor pool. Visitors can enter the spa and then dive into the pool.

The art that decorates the ceiling above the pool is an ode to the movement of wheat through the fields of Minnesota.

The spaces will be staffed with 300 employees, who will benefit from free meals at an in-house cafe. Uniforms are personally made for staff and custom made.

The hotel has 244 guest rooms, some of which have floor-to-ceiling windows offering unobstructed views of Minnesota.

Before they open, each room must be tested by an employee overnight and pass a 130-point checklist to ensure every feature works and every item is in place.

One bedroom offers a view of three major league stadiums: Target Field, Target Center and US Bank Stadium. But it’s the bathroom that’s worth the price of admission.

And just like that, Minnesotans have something new to be proud of.

Rooms cost between $500 and $900 a night, depending on the dates.

The lobby and rooftop bars are open to the public, as well as Kaysen’s new restaurant.

Four Seasons plans to partner with North Minneapolis businesses and host community fairs. The hotel intends to take a particular interest in two things: social justice and the fight against childhood cancer.
