Hospitality industry veteran Gary A. DeLapp set out to reinvent long-term accommodation with apartment-style hotels purposefully designed to feel right at home.

The president and CEO of stayAPT Suites is now bringing his new concept to North Charleston as part of the company’s model to open 17 hotels by the end of 2021, according to a press release.

The hotel will consist of suites of over 500 square feet and each will include a full-size kitchen with appliances, a living room with a sofa bed, a separate bedroom with a work area, a walk-in closet and two smart TVs.

The idea is to ditch the traditional one-bedroom hotel instead of a “residential-feel suite with intentional spaces,” stayAPT Suites said.

“Next year, travelers to the Lowcountry area will have access to our unique apartment-style hotel, perfect for any length of stay,” DeLapp said in a statement. “We are thrilled to bring stayAPT Suites to this vibrant community, and we look forward to serving Charleston residents and its many visitors year-round through not only our hotel offerings, but the relationships we build here.”

The new chain located at 9331 Blue House Road was selected for its proximity to Boeing, the Volvo manufacturing plant, the University of South Charleston and the Trident Medical Center, the company said.

North Carolina-based StayApt Suites opened its first Palmetto State location in Greer in 2020. The 50-unit hotel was built across from the BMW Upstate factory.

A Greenville-Haywood Mall location will open soon, with reservations available starting November 15. Plans for other hotels in Columbia and Rock Hill are already underway.

The chain plans to build a portfolio of more than 100 company-owned hotels, with a target of more than 200 franchise locations over the next five years, the company said.

“We saw an opportunity to reinvent long term accommodation and provide our guests with what they really want – and that is the space and in-room amenities to truly live comfortably while traveling away from home. them, “DeLapp said in a statement.

As part of its model, stayAPT Suites offers two- and three-story building models, ranging from 59 to 89 units.

“Our lean and efficient work model, depending on the number of rooms, requires an average of 2.5 to five employees and offers very attractive cash returns,” said DeLapp.

The hotel serves clients of all kinds, but in particular seeks to serve business, relocation and leisure travelers, whether for a night, a week, a month or more, all at a moderate price, the company said.

“Most long-term accommodations consist of a single room with a bed a short walk from a small kitchenette,” DeLapp said. “We have created an environment that goes far beyond that, offering travelers a better way to stay and live away from home. “
