Suspect in deadlock with KCPD after allegedly threatening to injure someone detained in his hotel room

Around 4 p.m. this afternoon, officers were called to the Best Western at 43rd and Main St regarding a disruption involving a weapon.



At the moment, Kansas City cops are involved in a standoff at the Best Western on Main at 43rd, just north of the plaza, CNN’s Jackson Kurtz has just arrived on the scene. Jackson, what can you tell us? Well, we’ve seen a lot of officers still negotiating with this suspect inside the Best Western. It’s a little hard to see where we are now, but we saw a lot of officers entering the area. They closed two-way traffic on the main street trying to help this person out of this Best Western. But we all know it started tonight after police received a call about a disturbance involving one person with a gun refusing to let another person out. Now the officers have responded that they were able to release this person who was being held but they are still negotiating with the suspect inside that Best Western has had no further updates but we are still seeing more officers enter the scene. A suspect is at an impasse with police after allegedly threatening to injure a victim who was being held in a hotel room. Around 4 p.m. this afternoon, officers were called to the Best Western at 43rd and Main Street regarding a disruption involving a weapon. The appellant indicated that a victim was in a hotel room with an armed suspect who refused to let them go. The caller said they threatened to injure the victim. Upon arrival, officers located the victim who was able to exit the hotel room safely. The suspect remains inside and armed with a gun. Officers attempted to contact the suspect who refused to leave the room. An official police standoff was called to bring additional tactical resources and negotiators to the scene. Police contacted other people in the hotel to evacuate the building. Negotiators are trying to discuss the matter in the hope of settling the situation peacefully.
