LHVA Awards: Golf Break, Spa Package and Dakota Leeds Hotel Stay to be Won at Charity Auction in Zarach

The Leeds Hotel and Venue Awards (LHVA) have teamed up with the charity Zarach, which ensures that every child in Leeds gets a good night’s sleep.

More than £1,500 was raised for the charity at the recent LHVA Awards, which celebrated the best in hospitality after two eventful years for the industry.

And LHVA is now holding a silent auction, where bidders can walk away with a series of luxury hotel stays – with all proceeds going to Zarach.

Deputy head teacher Bex Wilson started the charity in 2017, when one of her students told her he was always tired in class because he didn’t have a bed.

Bex provided the child with a new bed and fresh bedding and turned his act of kindness into charity, helping children and families in Leeds living below the subsistence level.

LHVA Chairman Wayne Topley said: “When Zarach approached us to support the charity we were appalled that such a service was needed in a contemporary city such as Leeds in modern times.

“We have been forced to support them – not just with financial support, but practical solutions that we as hoteliers are able to provide.

Hotels are like small villages with everything a community needs for success and survival in one place.

“As such, our collective can offer maintenance support, volunteer teams and above all, temporary accommodation for families in crisis.”

The silent auction prizes include a luxury overnight stay at the Dakota Hotel in Leeds, including dinner, guest room and personal driver, and a twilight spa package at Grantley Hall.

Bidders can also win a two-night golf break at the Sprowston Manor Hotel in Norwich, complete with golf carts, dinner, bed and breakfast.

As Charity of the Year, LHVA will donate at least £1,000 a year to Zarach for three years, while providing practical support.

“We have been blown away by the response from LHVA members to support us as our chosen charity,” said Tracey Parle, corporate relations manager at Zarach.

“We work hard to ensure that every child in Leeds gets a good night’s sleep by delivering cots, bedding sets and basic items to poor children.

“If a child sleeps and eats well, he learns better and education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.”

You can participate in the silent auction here. The closing date for entries is Friday July 8 at midnight and successful bidders will be notified by email.
