Background and design
While the Grand Hotel first opened its doors in the 1970s (in what was then Yugoslavia), it recently reopened in May 2022 after a comprehensive multimillion-euro 21st-century renovation. During Brioni’s heyday, it hosted many VIPs and celebrities, a legacy that is set to live on as it enters a second golden era half a century later. The exterior retains its original facade, but guests who have previously stayed will find completely redesigned and incredibly luxurious interiors and equipment, addressing a demanding, sophisticated and trendy clientele.

Located on the outskirts of the cultural and historical center of Pula, the hotel is flanked by a dense pine forest on one side and the open sea on the other hand, it takes its name from the Brijuni National Park and the Brijuni Islands, over which the property enjoys a beautiful view. A rugged coastline creates a rural, natural atmosphere and a sense of seclusion, while its clear waters offer magical swimming and snorkeling opportunities right on the doorstep.
Pula itself dates back to the 10th century BC and offers many fascinating sights including its Roman amphitheater and its short 15 minutes taxi ride from the hotel to the center of Pula.

227 rooms and suites have been completely redesigned with modern shades of gray and blue and warm wood finishes. Previously the rooms had a balcony which were removed during the hotel’s renovation, increasing the overall floor space of the bedrooms. Indigenous artwork, materials and colors are present in each, especially authentic Italian and Croatian stone. Now, smart digital technology is a mainstay of the hotel, with access to many in-room services and features available through your devices.
RRooms and suites all come with bathrobes, slippers, ILLY espresso machines, and mini-fridges, while suites have separate living and sleeping areas and private balconies.
There’s nightly turndown service and a pillow menu if you want a different type of pillow to sleep on, while bottled water is replenished daily and some room types also include a fruit basket. free welcome.
Bathrooms are top-to-toe marble with large, powerful rain showers, while amenities are by Acqua Di Parma and also replenished daily.
All rooms in the hotel have the same layout, the only difference is that some face the sea while others face the forest.
The bedroom windows are floor to ceiling with a Juliette glass balcony that allows the maximum amount of light to enter the room.
There are 16 suites in the hotel which occupy the corners of each of the wings. The floor space is more than 52 m² depending on your suite. The suites offer a spacious living room with a sitting area and a sofa bed, a bedroom with a king-size bed, two bathrooms with a walk-in shower, separate toilet and luxury toiletries.
Each floor has its own upscale butler corner — a fusion of boutique and minibar — with in-room dining options, drinks, personal care items, and freebies. Purchases are billed to the guest’s individual room, making it effortless to get what you need, 24 hours a day.
Like so many areas of the hotel, the Grand’s restaurants take full advantage of the incredible coastal backdrop with settings suitable for a sunny alfresco lunch or a romantic dinner. Its main restaurant, Brioni Forum, serves a fusion of international cuisine and Istrian dishes. The beach restaurant Brioni Lungo Mare is the perfect place to enjoy Mediterranean dishes and fresh seafood, while the Sofia restaurant, open only in the evening, delights carnivores with its incredible cuts of steak.

Brioni Lungo Mare
Located at the lowest point of the hotel, just above the beach and surrounded by the greenery of Mediterranean vegetation, Brioni Lungo Mare offers an unforgettable experience for all the senses. Restaurant Sophia is the perfect place for meat lovers, with an emphasis on the finest cuts of matured beef, from classic American to native Istrian cattle called Boskarin. Breakfast is a grand affair which is buffet style in the Forum restaurant, there is everything you could wish for or desire to start the day. Eggs are cooked to order at the pass and your server will serve you hot drinks. And if you like to start the day with bubbles, then help yourself to a glass of champagne or two!
Relax by the pool, swim in the sea
A long infinity pool filled with seawater runs along the side of the hotel, taking advantage of the spectacular views afforded by the location. If you’re feeling energetic, the hotel has a state-of-the-art gym with the latest Technogym equipment (and we mean the newest because we’ve never seen this version of the equipment before). The gym has fabulous sea views, but you can also watch YouTube, Netflix or your favorite motivational movie to get your digital fix while you work out. And if you wish, a personal coach session can be organized during your stay for you.
Medea Vineyard is a young and exciting winemaker based in the medieval town of Vodnjan, near Pula. It supplies the hotel’s cellars with products made from Malvazija, Chardonnay, Rose, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Teran and Malvazija Istarska grape varieties grown on fertile Istrian soil.
