Rocky Mountaineer launches US rail route from Utah to Colorado – Robb Report

All aboard for a rocky adventure! The five-star train company that helps passengers navigate the Canadian Rockies in style is gearing up for the first full season of its new route through the American West.

Rocky Mountaineer, a family-run Canadian luxury train company, has for years brought guests closer to the spectacular scenery between Vancouver and mountain towns like Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper in Western Canada. Last year, however, the team branched out into new territory with its first-ever US rail line, connecting Denver, Colorado, and Moab, Utah. The “test launch” only lasted a few months, so April will kick off the route’s first full season.

Extended windows provide passengers with panoramic views.

Dubbed the “Rockies to the Red Rocks” route, the experience is based on a basic two-day, one-night trip between Denver and Moab (or vice-versa), with the overnight stop being in Glenwood Springs , Colorado, known as the home of the world’s largest mineral spa pool. (Note that there are no sleeping cars on the train, so you’ll be sleeping in a hotel.) Along the way, you’ll travel along the Colorado River and through Byers Canyon and Core Canyon, taking in views of the mountains, desert cliffs and rock formations. Unlike the trains used on trips to Canada, this one doesn’t have glass domes topping the cars, but because the windows curve down the sides and part of the ceiling, you’ll still get those jaw-dropping panoramic views. breath.

In addition to the scenery, you’ll also savor multi-course breakfasts, lunches, and dinners served at your seat and prepared with Southwestern ingredients; menus will change, but could include dishes like roast pork tenderloin or beer-braised ribs, paired with wine, beer and spirits. To take it to the next level, upgrade to the SilverLeaf Plus package, which offers an elevated dining experience (like extra dishes), premium spirits and access to the lounge car, where you can enjoy signature cocktails, comfortable seats and a little outside view.
