The 10 Best Resorts in Central America – English Version

According to readers of Travel + Leisure, the best resorts in Central America combine luxurious accommodations with activities that celebrate adventure and nature.

Like last year, Costa Rica leads the pack of winners of the best resorts in Central America in 2022 with seven places. Belize managed to secure two spots on the list, with Nicaragua taking the bottom spot this time. It seems, for now, that Costa Rica’s hospitality prowess remains unmatched by its neighbors.

Every year, as part of our World’s Best Awards survey, T+L asks readers to give their opinion on travel experiences around the world – to share their opinions on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, etc. Hotels (including safari lodges) were rated on their facilities, location, service, food and overall value. Properties have been categorized as city hotel, resort or safari lodge depending on their location and amenities.

Belize continues to represent incredible value, with a landscape that can match Costa Rica, offering lush rainforests, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters for diving and snorkeling. The eco-lodge Hamanasi Adventure & Dive Resort (No. 6) is a prime example, offering personalized service and friendly staff who organize “excellent excursions thanks to their top-notch tour guides,” according to one constituent, who also gushed, “Hamanasi now has a special place in my heart!”

Rancho Santana, which came in at #4, is a vibrant surf spot in Nicaragua. One person mentioned its “spectacular beaches, fishing, turtle sanctuary and truly unique bird sightings.” Other highlights include farm-to-table dining and its “excellent private beach,” which one reader praised. Another fan summed it up: “hidden treasure”.

The best resorts in Central America all garner rave reviews from readers. So what sets this year’s No. 1 apart? Read on for the details – and to see the full list.

  1. Nayara Tented Camp, Arenal Volcano National Park, Costa Rica

A Nayara property has topped this category for three years — and the two sister resorts are never too far behind. This is the second year in a row that the newest refuge Nayara has landed in the top spot. This luxurious property is reminiscent of some of the best African safari lodges with its clifftop canvas glamping tents and superior service. Massive tents have romantic four-poster beds, large bathrooms with soaking tubs, and terraces with private hot spring-fed pools that overlook Arenal Volcano. Feedback from voters is rightly enthusiastic, with statements such as “Everything was perfect and the service was outstanding” and “a gem of a resort, exceptional in every way”. Several readers have also mentioned it as the best hotel they have stayed in. One summed up, “This is the most luxurious vacation we’ve ever had.”
