Workforce Housing and Extended Stay Hotel in Oxford

A workforce housing development and extended stay hotel is coming to Oxford.

Both projects are located near County Road 466 and east of US 301.

Bellweather Multifamily will have 368 units on approximately 43 acres north of CR 466 along Bellweather Lane and east of County Road 103.

WoodSpring Suites, a four-story hotel with 122 rooms is planned on nearly three acres along County Road 106, less than 100 yards south of CR 466.

Special Magistrate Lindsay CT Holt recommended approval of master plan and zoning changes for both projects at Tuesday’s meeting of the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board. City commission approval is required and action will likely be taken later this month.

The main access to the Bellweather project would be from a roundabout at the end of Bellweather Lane. CR 103 would provide secondary access.

The development is expected to add 105 students to the county school district.

Completion is expected in 2025 and the development is expected to generate 170 morning rush hour journeys and 182 evening rush hour journeys, according to a traffic study.

Holt said he received a letter opposing the project, but no one opposed it in a public hearing.

“I note that there is a critical need for housing and a critical need for labour,” she said.

The construction of the hotel is planned by the end of the year.

WoodSprings Suites are budget hotels for extended stays in over 300 locations. They have in-room kitchens, access to laundry facilities, and a fitness center at select hotels. Some rooms allow pets.

The hotel chain offers average discounts of 34% for weekly stays and 44% for monthly stays.

Choice Hotels acquired WoodSpring Suites in 2018. Choice Hotels is one of the largest hotel groups in the world with more than 7,000 properties and 14 brands.
